Various activities to raise awareness about environmental issues

With the aim of raising awareness about the methods and mechanisms for preserving the environment, GOPA-DERD’s team continues to implement its various activities in NES.

In Al-Hasakah, GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team in Al-Hol camp implemented a number of recreational activities, including handicrafts for children and planting some seedlings and trees within the camp. In addition, awareness publications were distributing to aimed at preserving the cleanliness of the environment.

In Raqqa, our team organized an awareness activity to plant and water some trees and seedlings in the center’s garden.

In Deir ez-Zor, GOPA-DERD’s volunteers implemented a voluntary initiative to clean the Euphrates River basin by removing weed, and plant some seedlings and trees within it. This initiative was well received by the residents who participated in the cleaning campaign, expressing thanks to this initiative, which will contribute to bringing life back to the place as it is the only outlet for the residents in that area.

In another context, and within raising awareness about the environment topics and climate change, GOPA-DERD’s “DARB” Centre’s team, at Al-Shamitiyah satellite point in Rural Deir ez-Zor implemented a discussion session about desertification and climate change which included a video presentation about the climate changes that are taking place in the area, their causes and effects. In addition, many topics related to the environment and how to preserve it were provided.

The team also organized an initiative to highlight the mechanisms and methods of recycling within a home by using cardboard, with the participation of 10 men and 9 women from the area’s residents.

During the initiative, the participants learned how to manufacture three different models of hospitality boxes to benefit from them in daily life. This took place in cooperation with UNFPA.
