Various activities on International Literacy Day
On the International Literacy Day, GOPA-DERD’s Educational program team in Al-Shiekh Kuder – Aleppo, implemented a group of activities under the slogan “Changing the Path of Learning” in “Salim Malko Jarbaqa” school in Haidariyah and “May Ziada” schools in Al-Halk.
The activities highlighted the importance of reading and writing as basic skills for building prosperous societies.
The mobile team, in cooperation with the educational program team in Aleppo, also implemented an awareness session for women in the village of Kafr Kar on the importance of literacy.
In As-Suwayda, GOPA-DERD’s ORVs team carried out an educational theatrical activity that included theatrical scenes about the importance of women’s education and their freedom from illiteracy, with the participation of women who benefited from the literacy course organized by GOPA-DERD’s team over a period of 6 months, in cooperation with the Department of Adult Education, and targeted 53 women between the ages of 25 and 70 years.
During the activity, the participating women shared their experiences with the audience and talked about how they benefited from the literacy course. One of them said: “This course changed my life. Now I can read messages and communicate with others more easily.” Another added: “I feel more confident and I can help my children with their studies.”
