The Response Continues: Providing Water and Meeting the ‎Basic Needs in As-Sweida

With the aim of improving living conditions and promoting public health within the community, GOPA-DERD’s team in As-Sweida, in cooperation with Oxfam, implemented the installation of horizontal pumping units in a number of water stations in the governorate.

At the Jabal al-Arab station, which belongs to the Salkhad Water Unit, a horizontal pumping unit was installed that will contribute to supplying the village of Tell al-Lawz with water, serving about 1,750 beneficiaries.

Four other horizontal pumping units were also installed at the al-Dayatha stations, which belong to the Eastern Rural Water Unit, and will supply five villages: al-Mushannaf, Umm Rawak, Tarba, al-Ajilat, and al-Kassib, benefiting approximately 23,400 people.

In the context of restoration and rehabilitation work, GOPA-DERD’s engineering’s team, in cooperation with Oxfam, completed the rehabilitation of health services at the Civil Defense shelter center in As-Sweida Governorate, which houses 38 families with a total of 133 people displaced from eight villages.

The project focused on meeting the basic needs of the residents and creating a safer and more dignified environment.

The work included the construction of dedicated bathing facilities, the implementation of a solar water heating system, the provision of the center with two water tanks with a capacity of 2000 liters each, the installation of an electric water heater with a capacity of 1000 liters, the installation of new sinks, the execution of painting work, the maintenance of doors and windows, the installation of locks, exhaust fans and lighting points, which enhances privacy and security and raises the level of general hygiene within the community.
