International Youth Day
On the occasion of International Youth Day, GOPA-DERD’s team implemented a series of various activities in several areas.
In the city of Al-Hasakah and Al-Hawl camp, each of GOPA-DERD’s “Darb” Center’s team, in cooperation with UNFPA, and GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team, carried out awareness and recreational activities, which included a football match and awareness sessions on food security.
In Raqqa, each of GOPA-DERD’s “SPACE” and Community Centers’ teams carried out awareness sessions and a group of entertainment games.
In Aleppo, GOPA-DERD’s “SPACE” Center’s team in Haritan implemented an activity for youth, which included an introductory tour of the National Library in Aleppo, to emphasize the importance of reading and enhancing youth skills in building the future. In addition, awareness sessions about the challenges facing youth at the present time was implemented. This took place in cooperation with DKH.
GOPA-DERD’s team in Aleppo, in cooperation with MECC, also implemented an activity for a number of students who passed the high school diploma. The activity included various sessions to introduce the most important university majors and their fields, with the aim of empowering young people.
In Latakia, GOPA-DERD’s “Hand in Hand” project’s team organized an exhibition in which Tishreen University students from various specializations participated, such as fine arts, mechanical and electrical engineering, chemistry, and others. This took place in cooperation with UNFPA and the National Union of Syrian Students.
GOPA-DERD’s “Darb” Center’s team, also carried out an awareness session for inmates at Latakia Central Prison, which included multiple topics to introduce International Youth Day, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the role of youth in achieving them through their innovations in the field of technology.
In a related context, and with the aim of exploring the effective role of technology and data in accelerating efforts towards achieving sustainable development goals, GOPA- DERD’s PSS and GBV programs teams at “Darb” Center in Al-Qusayr implemented an activity for more than 44 young men and women graduates of the faculties of electrical engineering, informatics and automatic control.
In turn, GOPA-DERD’s “Darb” Center’s team in Homs, implemented various events and activities over two days in which more than 50 young men and women participated, including launching a volunteer initiative to participate in several street cleaning campaigns in the city, and distributing awareness-raising publications about the importance of preserving the environment.
The youth also participated in an open day that included sports, recreational and cultural activities on the topics of reproductive health, psychosocial support and gender-based violence. In addition, life skills workshops, were conducted, in cooperation with UNFPA.
In Daraa, GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team, implemented a set of recreational activities for more than 40 young men and women, which included handicrafts and recycling of used and old items with the aim of preserving the environment. In addition, an awareness session was implemented under the title of Self-affirmation and development in light of sustainable development.
GOPA-DERD’s team in Daraa also carried out an awareness and recreational activity for the students of the educational course at GOPA-DERD’s Community Center in Ghabagheb. In addition various activities and sessions were implemented on life skills and enhancing the strengths of adolescents.
