Blood Donation: A Humanitarian Message and Social Responsibility
World Blood Donor Day, celebrated annually on June 14th, is a global event aimed at raising awareness of the importance of blood donation and its vital role in saving the lives of patients and the injured.
Blood donation is not limited to saving lives; it also reflects the values of solidarity, cooperation, and social responsibility, and contributes to ensuring a safe and sufficient blood supply for hospitals and health centers, making it a fundamental pillar for supporting health systems and protecting human life.
Based on these humanitarian values, and on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team in Daraa, organized a volunteer initiative in cooperation with UNHCR, to emphasizing on the importance of promoting a culture of blood donation and strengthening the values of solidarity and giving within the community.
The initiative included an awareness session in which a number of volunteers participated. Durin the session, the vital role of blood donation in saving the lives of patients and the injured was highlighted, in addition to its health benefits for the donor.
Following the session, the GOPA-DERD’s team headed to the blood bank in Daraa Governorate to donate blood, translating the humanitarian message into a practical initiative that brings hope to those who need it.
GOPA DERD’s team in Latakia, also conducted an awareness session in the cities of Jableh and Al-Haffah. The session addressed the importance of blood donation in saving lives and focused on its importance to the donor. The types of blood groups and how blood is transfused were also discussed.
Some participants in the session donated blood, and in turn, GOPA-DERD’s team launched a blood donation initiative in the city of Jableh.
