More than 2000 hectares will bear fruit ... 9 pumping stations to address the challenges of irrigating agricultural lands in rural Deir Ezzor
Deir Ezzor Governorate is one of the vital agricultural areas in Syria, where the rural population depends largely on agriculture as a primary source of income. However, irrigation projects in this area face major challenges in the absence of basic components. Therefore, farmers resort to using primitive and limited irrigation methods that often depend on seasonal rainwater or other rare sources, which limits the productivity of agricultural lands. Therefore, after a needs survey of the most affected areas and villages in the countryside of the governorate, which included a complete study of agricultural lands, waterways, types of crops and the quantities of water they need, GOPA-DERD’s engineering team implemented a number of irrigation projects in 9 villages, distributed between the eastern and western countryside of the governorate, including the villages of Traif – Zghair Shamieh – Al-Bowetieh – Tabieh Shamieh – Al-Enbbah – Madan Atik – Al-Qasabi (Al-Qalaa – Al-Qasabi – Tibni, where 9 irrigation water pumping stations were rehabilitated and installed, including pumps and electricity generator sets, to irrigate an area of 2060 hectares of agricultural land, benefiting more than 3230 families. This took place in cooperation with WFP.
