On International Day of the Girl Child ... various activities to support and empower girls
Under the title “Girls’ Vision for the Future,” GOPA-DERD’s team celebrated International Day of the Girl Child through a set of various activities in a number of areas.
In Daraa, with the aim of highlighting on the needs and challenges facing girls, GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team implemented a set of various activities for more than 80 girls in each of the Daraa, Izraa and Ghabagheb, which included recreational games, handicrafts and competitions.
GOPA-DERD’s “Beituna” Center’s team in Daraa, in cooperation with NCA, organized an open day for more than 100 girls from the secondary stage at Ismail Abu Nabut School, which included recreational activities and awareness sessions about the rights of the girl child.
In Lattakia, GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team in the city implemented recreational activities for young girls, which included sports segments during which they learned methods and mechanisms of self-defense. In addition, a set of handicrafts and intellectual works that enhance imagination and creativity, such as fashion design, making accessories, and writing success stories of influential people.
In Jableh, GOPA-DERD team implemented a recreational activity for a number of children. During the activity, the children learned how to prepare food and present them to the judging committee. With the aim of not discriminating between males and females when participating in work.
In Al-Haffa, GOPA-DERD team implemented a recreational activity for children, and an awareness session for mothers about the concept of gender.
GOPA-DERD’s “Darb” Center’s team also implemented an awareness session in the women’s wing of Lattakia Central Prison, about the challenges facing girls in many areas such as economic, psychological, social, educational and health. In addition, the effective and positive role of girls were elaborated on.
In turn, GOPA-DERD’s “Darb” Center’s team in Homs organized a celebration 5 days for more than 75 male and female students in one of the schools in Bab Sebaa neighborhood, with the aim of promoting the idea of empowering girls and protecting them from violence and harm within the school community. The celebration, included a set of recreational activities and competitions, and awareness sessions on girls’ rights and early marriage.
In Al-Qusayr in rural Homs, GOPA-DERD’s “Darb” Center’s team organized an awareness campaign on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child, for more than 120 women and young women residing in the city and those who displaced from Lebanon and residing in both the Monastery of St. Elias neighborhood in Jossieh, the Holy Shrine of Our Lady in Rabla, with the aim of raising awareness about girls’ rights and protecting them.
The campaign included a number of diverse activities and awareness sessions. In addition, psychological support services were provided to some girls with psychological treatment and consultations on reproductive health. and dignity kits were also distributed to them. This took place in cooperation with UNFPA.
