Octobre Rose... A month of awareness and solidarity with women in their journey against breast cancer
On the occasion of World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of early detection, GOPA-DERD’s team implemented a series of various activities and awareness sessions in various areas.
In Homs, GOPA-DERD’s “Darb” Center’s team in both the city and Al-Qusayr, in cooperation with UNFPA, organized awareness campaigns and recreational activities for more than 261 women and young women from the local community and a number of women displaced from Lebanon.
During the sessions, they learned about the disease, its symptoms and the factors that increase the risk of infection, they also learned self-examination methods, and some women received medical consultations from a specialized gynecologist.
In Hama, and to emphasize the importance of early screening for breast cancer, GOPA-DERD’s “CARMA IV” Center’s team, in cooperation with Caritas Austria, implemented a set of various activities, including field visits to a number of women’s homes, a workshop for a group of young women, a visit to the health center in Souran, awareness sessions for women in cooperation with a local doctor, and various activities for a number of women thouse who displaced from Lebanon.
In Lattakia, GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team in each of Jableh and Haffeh, implemented a set of awareness sessions for a number of women and young women, during which the importance of regular follow-up for early detection of breast cancer was emphasized, as well as methods of home self-examination.
GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team Al Datour also implemented an open day activity for a number of women who had overcome breast cancer, which included a set of recreational activities and awareness sessions.
In As-Sweida, GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team, organized an awareness campaign for more than 330 women for a month, which included various activities and awareness sessions about breast cancer, its symptoms, prevention and treatment methods, 26 women were also referred for mammography and necessary medical follow-up. In addition, coordinating with health centers in the villages to enhance efforts and achieve maximum benefit for the women targeted by the campaign.
In Daraa, GOPA-DERD team in the city, Izraa and Ghabagheb, implemented several awareness sessions to raise awareness among local communities about breast cancer and its symptoms.
GOPA-DERD’s “Beituna” Center’s team, in cooperation with NCA, also implemented awareness sessions for more than 50 women, about the risks of the disease and the importance of conducting a self-examination.
In turn, GOPA-DERD’s “CARMA” Center’s team, in cooperation with Caritas Austria, organized a set of recreational activities and awareness sessions for more than 50 women, about breast cancer.
In Aleppo, GOPA-DERD’s “SPACE” Center’s team in Qadi Askar areas implemented an awareness campaign that included two aspects, one of which was medical and included several topics related to breast cancer, and the other was psychological, during which the relationship between mental and physical health and the appropriate means to alleviate the pain resulting from them was discussed. This took place in cooperation with DKH.
In a related context, GOPA-DERD’s “Dream” Centre’s team, in both Al-Hasakah and Qamishli, implemented awareness sessions on self-examination methods and its importance in early detection of the disease, in cooperation with IOCC.
GOPA-DERD’s “Darb” Center’s team in both Al-Hasakah and Raqqa, in coordination with the Health Directorate in both governorates, implemented a set of awareness and recreational activities on the importance of early detection and its psychological effects.
In Deir Ezzor, GOPA-DERD team in Al-Shumaytiyah, Marat, and Harabish, implemented a set of various activities and awareness sessions on breast cancer and its symptoms with the participation of a number of female survivors who talked about the treatment phase and the challenges they faced.
GOPA-DERD team also carried out a field visit to the Central Prison for Women in Deir Ezzor, accompanied by a doctor and a legal midwife, during which they explained the importance of early detection and methods of self-examination. In addition, examining female inmates and following up on their health conditions.
