A delegation from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) Organization visits a group of projects implemented by GOPA-DERD’s team in Rural Damascus

A delegation from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) Organization visited a group of projects implemented by GOPA-DERD’s team in Rural Damascus in partnership with the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA).

The field visit of the delegation, which included from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Yngvid Bergrav, Mr. Aslak Heldal, Mr. Tor Martin Moller and accompanied by GOPA-DERD team headed by GOPA-DERD Director-General Archimandrite Meletius Shattahi.

 The visit began to Al-Maliha town, to oversee the restoration works of three wells that were equipped with all necessary means for proper functioning. The delegation also had a look at the importance of the other projects implemented in the area, which included the restoration of sewage network lines, and listened to local authorities about the usefulness of these projects in improving the real needs of providing potable water and sanitation services, as well as their positive impact on increasing the number of returnees to the town.

Then the delegation moved to Al-Nashabiya Health Center, where restoration and rehabilitation works were carried out by GOPA-DERD’s team, with a solar energy kit to generate electricity. The testimonies of the medical staff and patients praised the importance of the restoration works, which allowed the return of various health services that are free-of-charge for residents of Al-Nashabiya and the neighboring towns.

In Adra, the delegation concluded the visit by checking the restoration and rehabilitation works of the Second Adra School, where a dialogue took place with the teaching staff, the town’s mayor, and the students about the positive impact of these projects on community recovery, by providing educational opportunities to the largest number of students, and encouraging the displaced townspeople to return to their town of origin and alleviating their burdens.

It is worth mentioning that GOPA-DERD’s team always seeks to expand the area of support and deliver it to its beneficiaries throughout the Syrian geography by implementing various projects, specifically in the areas most in need of restoring life.
