Coinciding with the international days at the beginning of April - Various activities took place within the framework of social responsibility and faith in actions

GOPA-DERD’s team celebrates many international days throughout the year. The team also shares awareness activities with community members in a step to raise their awareness on important issues and topics. Therefore, based on faith in actions, and in celebration of a number of international days during the first week of April, GOPA-DERD team implemented various activities in most of the Syrian governorates.

At the top of the list was the World Autism Awareness Day, in Daraa, where GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team in both of the city and Jabab, implemented recreational activities for a number of children, in an effort to raise awareness about autism and how to communicate with those who suffer from it.

In As-Suwayda, GOPA-DERD’s team implemented a workshop for the volunteers who deal with cases of the autism spectrum, which the trainees concluded with expressions of love and appreciation for children with autism.

In turn, GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team in Jableh, Al-Haffah and Al-Datour in Latakia, presented a set of recreational and educational activities for children, awareness sessions for parents and mothers about dealing with autistic children, creating educational support material, and an awareness session for teachers in some schools, about the social and educational integration of people with autism spectrum. This took place in cooperation with UNHCR.

With the aim of providing support for people with autism, GOPA-DERD’s “Dream” center’s team in Al-Hasakah implemented various activities for more than 30 children, in cooperation with IOCC.

In As-Suwayda, the protection team implemented a workshop for GOPA-DERD’s team who deal with cases of the autism spectrum, where trainees concluded with expressions of love and appreciation for children with autism.

On the occasion of International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, GOPA-DERD’s team implemented various awareness activities in several areas.

With the aim of raising awareness about the dangers of war remnants and how to deal with them, GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team in Daraa, Jbab and Izraa implemented mine awareness sessions for a number of children.

In As-Suwayda, the team implemented a set of awareness sessions for teachers and students in the eastern border areas that are directly at risk of mines. The sessions included correcting misconceptions about mines and their remnants.

In the same context, an awareness session for children was presented by GOPA-DERD’s team in Aleppo that dealt with the forms of explosive remnants, and best ways of safe-handling them.

In NES, GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team in both Raqqa and Al-Hol camp in Al-Hasakah, implemented a set of awareness and recreational activities for more than 70 people, on the dangers of mines and the mechanism of communication with the competent authorities to deal with them.

In Al-Haffah, rural-Latakia, GOPA-DERD team carried out an awareness and recreational activity within the child-friendly space in the village of Balouta. The activity included several stops focusing on the importance of protecting oneself from foreign objects that happen to be present in certain places. This took place in cooperation with UNHCR.

Based on the role of sports in encouraging respect and tolerance and empowering members of society, and on the occasion of International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, GOPA-DERD’s “Hand-in-Hand” team in Tartous implemented a sports initiative entitled “The Challenge of Peace”, in Doueir Sheikh Saad. The initiative included friendly basketball matches for a group of young people. This took place in cooperation with UNICEF.

In Al-Hasakah, GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team, in cooperation with UNHCR, implemented a set of recreational and physical activities within Al-Hol camp.

Based on the slogan “Good Health for All”, GOPA-DERD’s team celebrated World Health Day by implementing various recreational activities and awareness sessions.

In Aleppo, with the aim of raising awareness on the importance of maintaining public health and its impact on mental health, GOPA-DERD’s Community Center’s team implemented a health awareness session and a set of recreational activities for children in the village of Banan al-Hoss in the governorate’s countryside.

In Al-Haffah, Latakia, GOPA-DERD’s team implemented an awareness activity for children and adolescents, which included an introduction to common diseases, methods of measuring blood sugar and blood pressure, and a puppet theatre show. In addition, an awareness session for women about reproductive health was provided, in cooperation with UNHCR.

In As-Suwayda, GOPA-DERD team carried out a number of awareness sessions and visits, by inviting 12 children to the Family Care Center “Beituna”, to learn about dealing with wounds and burns, and simple medical devices, then head to the nursing school in the area and present gifts to the nurses in appreciation of their role. This took place in cooperation with NCA.
